(Alei Shur vol. 1 p. 29).

The Maharik says that "there is none like Rabbeinu Yonah to bring the matter to the heart". For the first time this essential commentary is available to the English speaking public.

The book is over 400 pages and contains extensive footnotes and sources.

Translated by Rabbi David Sedley and published by Torahlab, it is not yet available in stores.

What people are saying about Rabbeinu Yonah on Pirkei Avos:

“this is a very beautiful book”

“Rabbeinu Yonah is THE Rishon on Avos, but unfortunately is not widely studied. Now the text is accesible to a wide audience.”

“It is incredible that until now there has been no English translation of Rabbeinu Yonah on Pirkei Avot. This excellent translation fills a big gap in any English Jewish library.”Shuihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04137113661443153487noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8707158314592703155.post-45512496862167414812007-05-03T02:39:00.000-04:002007-05-03T02:39:00.000-04:00I do not know why I avoided this post until now. I...I do not know why I avoided this post until now. I did not have the energy for it. Today I finally got to it.
Rav Hirsch is great.
The Torah is communal. Aside form the lesson you quoted and explained, it should be a reminder to us that we cannot say I cannot learn the Torah because I cannot be like Rabbi x or y. The torah is not his - it is all of ours. He is part of the community and learnign his share and we have to learn our share.
Being part of a community obligates us to partake and participate in the needs of the community.

Remember - there is no i in "team". But I am not sure if one has to be completely mevatel his own identity.Rafi G.https://www.blogger.com/profile/00699851287106903971noreply@blogger.com
